D&AD awards
Black pencils for the Millions and The Great Schlep Campaigns, both by Droga 5. Click here for their website and go to their case study section. Some deserved winners at the D&AD's last night. The standouts would have to be the agency Droga 5 who picked up two black pencils for two truly inspiring campaigns.
Millions - Giving NY kids a cellphone that gives them free credit and music downloads if they performed well in the classroom. Brilliant. This pretty much hits the nail on the head on getting kids to do better in school. More here.
The Great Schelp - Getting the elderly Jewish people in Florida to vote for President Obama by getting their grandchildren to talk to them. It a great way to educate older people about Obama's policy. Did it win the election? I'm sure it helped. More here.
Both are genuinely helpful and inspiring. The idea is only enhanced by the mediums that they decided to use.
We're inspired and a little bit jealous at the same time!

Interactive maps, but not as we know it.

This is nice idea from mysociety.com. Cross-referencing data on a map. The example above is commuting time vs. property prices. As you can see that if you’re willing to travel for 60 minutes and only have £350,000 to spend, these are the places you can live.
There are a few more examples here on their website, it’s a simple way to exactly pin point locations where you want and can afford.
How long before these start appearing on property websites?

Keep FAILING!

Some more gems we've found. Go here for a whole load of fail. Shipment of Fail might be our new favorite website.
This is why we love the internet!
Advice for creative types !
As creatives we are meant to embrace failure (think that's the WK motto.) Benjamin Franklin said "I haven't failed, i've had 10,000 ideas that didn't work!"
"Fail, fail again. Fail better." said Samuel Beckett
But, don't do it like these videos!

Weapons of mass day to day use

How do you like your egg in the morning?
I like mine in the shape of a gun. I also like my mug to double as a knuckle duster, my external hard drives to imitate a bomb, and my girls to understand i like this stuff. I think this means I'm a proper bloke, or at least am trying to be one. However one thing is for sure, i wont hold a girlfriend for long, and will know doubt end up on the 9 o'clock news.
I do have a few problems with these...
1. They are mental
2. They are weird
3 And i love them.
To be honest i would quite happily go with the AMCE style bomb because there is no bombs that are actually that shape. But i think you could really hurt someone with the mug.
Basically I'm not sure what i really think of these, but I'm sure that is a good place to be (not actually mental, but still a bit of a bloke) .

It's just a nice idea.
This is a gem of an idea by Becky Miller, a recent graduate from the University of Brighton.Check out her work here.
