Thundercats the Movie? Hoooooo!

This has to be one of best fan made trailers ever to grace youTube. Apparently this guy Wormy T photoshopped the actors from other films to look like Liono, Panthera and Tigra etc etc. Just looking at the cast he picked, he hasn't done badly.

Prediction by next week is that it has 2 million hits and gets film geeks wetting themselves over whether it could fuel movie studio's into actually thinking about making it. Last i heard, Thundercats was going to be a CG film in 2010...but who knows now???

Christmas Party Antics

I want to say i was dancing like this last night at our christmas do. But we really weren't. Found this "crew" called the Jabbawockeez while doing some research. It's the best moves i've seen for a while, plus their masks look cool.

Stuck for Christmas present ideas?

"Dick in a Box" has to be one of the funniest sketches to come out of Saturday Night Live. The embed link is disabled so check it out here. It's a few years old, but will remain a Christmas classic in our heart...or should that be pants?? Respect to Justin Timberblake on this one.

Happy Christmas!

What's your batting average??

Be honest with yourself! As a creative, out of all the ideas that you came up with this year, what do you reckon was the percentage that saw the light of day?

The one thing that we think is close to a creatives strike rate for ideas being produced is a baseball player stepping up to the plate. Stay with us on this one...

The batting average of major league baseball (top division) player is around the 28-30% mark. They only actually connect with the ball about a third of the time.

We think coming up with ideas is kind of the same percentage.

Some ideas hit first base, they're cool. They work and the client is happy.

Others manage to get to second. The client is happy, account people and planners say "that is bang on brief", creative director says "good, but it's not an award winner"

Then you may hit third! CD really likes the idea, it could be great. Gold even! But...in comes the client to water it down.

Then there's the home run. Now a home run doesn't mean "cracked". It means that you got the good idea, it really pleased your CD, client's happy and maybe you might slide in for an award.

Think about all the briefs you "connect" with, get the ideas and then the work never see the light of day??

We just hope that next year we can make sure we at least smack one out of the park!!

2 videos, 1 post

Found two good videos today. One is the Simpsons take on Apple and the other is new video manipulation technology from Adobe. The possibilities for this are massive and the Simpsons piss take of Apple is scarily close to the truth.

Two thing that made me happy

1. Monty Python now has a dedicated youtube channel. This made me happy cause i love Monty Python alot. Go here to get a dose of the fish dance and the ministry of funny walks. Below is one of the best comedy scenes ever created.

Online and offline and online again!!!

We’ve just finished working on a great pitch. Digy Roy has been away so I’ve been a lone creative for the end of it. But it was still a lot of fun.

The client has to stay anonymous for now, but they are on my list of “cool brands” and if this work saw the light of day it would be a massive cross channel idea.

Working on this pitch campaign the last few weeks made me remember of past “massive” online/offline campaigns. The one in particular that I really like is Year Zero that 42 Entertainment did for Nine Inch Nails. It got the grand prix at Cannes, which it honestly did deserve.

The overview can be found here and offers a quick look at what was a totally immersive experience for the audience. It actually eclipses their Dark Knight viral efforts.

The online/offline experience was amazing, flash drives hidden at gigs, CD’s that reacted to body heat to reveal a message, hidden phone numbers, websites, events, posters and a mini underground political type movement. This campaign had it all and then even more!

What was cool about the idea was it was scaleable. It allowed the audience to delve into this Year Zero world as far as they wanted to go. They could still get a good experience by just buying the CD and getting the hidden content from that.

It's also really cool to see something that takes you online to offline and online again. The two worlds merge to become something bigger than the channels you decide to use. it does help that the campaign was an album promo which people like, i can't see Year Zero working for a washing powder.

This kind of stuff is so inspiring to see. I reckon this is what digital is heading towards on a regular basis, well for the brands that have a very loyal audience and are deemed "cool" e.g Nike, Apple etc.

Brand awareness that hits every channel and allows the audience to decide whether they take it on or not. They could see a poster that would take them to the internet on their phone, keeping them involved until they access the site at home. Cool stuff!

Loving this photography effect. It makes everything seem like it's a miniature. Some work better than others.

Hexapod dance off

These things would great for an online campaign. You could control them in real time via a webcam and have a robotic dance off with someone across the globe. How cool would that be?

Make a cake in a mug!

"With Cake in a Mug, you can have a hot, delicious, fresh-baked chocolate cake in minutes!"

Fancy something different with your afternoon tea or coffee. Then give this a go.

What your need...

A microwave oven
A large microwavable mug
A tablespoon for measuring
4 Tablespoons flour
9 Tablespoons hot chocolate mix
1 Egg
3 Tablespoons water
3 Tablespoons oil
Cooking Spray

Instructions

1. Spray a little cooking spray into the mug.
2. Measure out the flour and hot chocolate mix into the mug. Stir.
3. Crack the egg into the mug. Stir a bit after adding the egg so the cup doesn't overflow.
4. Add water and oil.
5. Stir until thoroughly moistened. Make sure to scrape the bottom of the mug with your spoon to avoid any leftover pockets of dry ingredients.

Bake!

The handle of the mug may be hot, so use a potholder to remove it from the microwave.

Tip your cake cylinder out of the mug into a dish. Your cake may look a little damp and wrinkled. This is normal.

Use a fork to break it up into quarters. This will allow steam in the center to escape. Arrange so that the more attractive interior of the cake is showing.

CAKE IN A MUG. DONE.

Mouse Gag!

This isn't a new one! But Digy Roy loves it. What else is better for KY than an old school mouse gag. We have noticed a problem, when your on the page it will keep throwing your mouse all over the show. So users will just get annoyed. We have thought of some much more filthy banner gags, and we're sure you guys can too!

Test it for yourself here

Interactive maps, but not as we know it.

This is nice idea from mysociety.com. Cross-referencing data on a map. The example above is commuting time vs. property prices. As you can see that if you’re willing to travel for 60 minutes and only have £350,000 to spend, these are the places you can live.

There are a few more examples here on their website, it’s a simple way to exactly pin point locations where you want and can afford.

How long before these start appearing on property websites?

Banksy and Fake Meat

Banksy new show? Who knows? The Village Pet Store popped up in Grenwich village the other day with a Primate watching porn, a chicken nuggets enclosure (image above) and fish fingers in a tank. The whole article is here. We really like the chicken nuggets and the sausage lizards, take a look at some of the videos yourself. Our favourite videos are below and the rest can be found here

Carb Free Revolution

Well we hope you like the re-vamped site! We say re-vamped, but it's just a new font and header, but hey... it looks prettier.

Considering we work in digital advertising we thought it would be an idea to get some cool little widgets on the go. So we've made Carb Free TV and Carb Free Music, this means we can let you know what's keeping us inspired visually and musically. Hopefully we'll have a flickr widget (Carb Free Gallery perhaps?) up and running so when we're out and about and spot something of real coolness we can get it straight to our blog.

Anyway onto the interesting bit of the post...

Last FM has come on a bit since we last looked at it. The real appeal is to listen to music for free. We're feeling the pinch in our wallets a bit so this has become a cool way to find out about new music we might like and just want to listen to. The more we play our itunes and the radio it should learn out listening habits and find music we'll like...cool eh!

XXX from Diesel

This will be one of the biggest Viral videos of the year, it's based on porn images that have been cleverly photoshopped apparently, it's not that original. Those images have been floating around the net for some time but this video makes them really come to life.

Not sure if that's a pun or not?

Techno Techno Techno

First up is the Esquire 75th anniversary cover which seems to be taking us one step closer to Minority Report style video cereal boxes. Nice to see magazines getting a slice of technology action.

Second is the new site from channel 4 called 4mation. You can see their "word spreading" little widget to the right, it's pretty pointless really, but that's what is fun about it. Just roll your mouse over and it will be cleaned of all its sins. Hit the link above and check out some bizzare and surreal animation.

And third, is the Wario youtube takeover. It's a really nice media buy and what is equally good is that all this links still work. It's not just a overlay, an actual youtube page gets destroyed. Watch it here.

Conversations from the inside

This is a bonkers video for the Nike Women campaign "Here i am". It features Nicola Sander, but her insides get more of a staring role.

This short is so intriguing as well as a little disturbing. Considering it's aimed at women it seems a little removed from the main audience. But it looks cool and has had loads of money thrown at it, and that's why we like it.

Bring on the bigger budgets (or should be trumpets?)

Watch it here.

Feed your creativity with a Pikey Pie.

This month has been a manic one. What has happened is that all our cash has disappeared, we're still not sure how (denial there), but alas...it's all gone.

Now to the point. With no cash in the bank and obviously a need to at least feed ourselves we have been again rocking the toast/grilling machine to add some much needed zing to an otherwise boring meal. Our post about our love for this kitchen appliance can be found here.

However, it seems these boring meals have spread into the evening with not even a chili or lasagna  that could feed us for a week in sight! Making a really cheap meal can be difficult, (Pot Noodles don't count!) finding time is a massive factor and when your poor, pasta for 100th time can get tedious.

So i offer up the Pikey Pie for you all to try. It's basic, cheap and quick, but can still inspire even the most hungry of creatives. Here's how to make it.

Ingredients - Pack of fish fingers (bird's eye preferred), two tins of baked beans (heinz), potatoes, butter, milk, cheese, salt and pepper

Once you've got them...

1. Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees and boil some water in a large pan.
2. Peel and cut the potatoes and put them on the boil.
3. Get a dish and create a layer of fish fingers (still frozen) on the bottom.
4. Then put your baked beans on top.
5. When the potatoes are soft, mash em up with some butter, milk, salt and pepper.
6. Put the mash on the beans.
7. To finish, grate some cheese on top.

Put it in the oven for 25-30 minutes and you have turned something simple into something great. Hopefully, if you do try it you'll feel properly fed and ready to deal with another day in advertising.

Trust us, you'll taste the difference.

The Best-ival dressed

We've just got back from Bestival and it was truly mudtastic. It all got a bit too much on the Sunday, but everyone there didn't let the weather beat them on the Saturday night.

Here are a few of the best costumes we saw while we were there. The theme was 30,000 freaks under the sea. If anyone went and has anymore photos, let us know cause we think we still missed some jems.

Who's watching the Watchmen

Now that the Dark Knight excitement is slowing wearing off, it's time to get the ball rolling on the much hyped Watchmen graphic novel and film. This has been said (going by reviews off the cover) as the mecca of all comics. Written in 1989 by Alan Moore, fans believe it is the super hero story to end all!

It's been in development hell for years, going through multiple casts and directors. The job finally  went to Zac Synder (Dir. of 300) who is an actual fan and by the look of his other work is the right guy to bring this epic to life.

Watch the Watchmen...it looks cool.

Zattoo! That's amazing

Zattoo lets you watch TV in real time on your Mac or PC, for free! Download it here. We've been watching the Olympics all day! We're up to 16 gold medals so far.

GO TEAM GB!

The monkey has nothing to do with this post, we typed in shocked into google and this seemed like the funniest image to put up.

The cutest cats

This has a bit of press in London papers. We know the creative team who did this so it makes perfect sense why the idea has these cats so well groomed. Very different considering it's for a film.

Sorry about lack of posts...holidays and being insanely are the reasons.

Wanna meet the Joker?

Right this week is all about The Dark Knight. There's going to be an insane amounts of posts about this film as it get all the excitement out of the system for a while and we can do some work.

The Dark Knight Prologue came out in IMAX screens with I am Ledgend. It was a 6 minute kick ass introduction of the Joker. Everywhere i have looked the film has been taken down, so you won't find it "here" to download (uses itunes). We're not sure if it appears in the film or not and don't worry about it spoiling the plot...it doesn't.

Who's else is excited about The Dark Knight

Who's excited about the The Dark Knight film? Answer...everyone!! The PR on this film has been really good and gotten into every channel conceivable. Any cool bits of content anyone has found, please send it our way. The viral stuff has been particularly cool but we have yet to find it all!!

This is something quite geeky but equally cool for The Dark Knight. You can make your own Batmobile (otherwise known as the Tumbler) out of paper. So since the weather is not letting us play outside this could be a good rainy day project.

Download the PDF and instructions here.
